Dota 2 player falls asleep during esports tournament

A professional Dota 2 esports player’s untimely nap resulted in Mosquito Clan’s defeat during the Serbia-based FISSURE Special tournament.

It has resulted in an unforgettable moment now referred to as ‘the Parker incident’, and according to Mosquito Clan, shows that “sometimes the toughest opponent is the alarm clock.”

Shared through a post on Reddit, one user pointed out how David ‘Parker’ Nicho Flores had fallen asleep during the tournament — supposedly between draft phase and the start of game one.

A 10-minute pause was initiated by the admins after Parker was reported to be AFK. As an online tournament, it was likely that the organisation was unable to contact Parker during the game. After 41 seconds of in-game run-time, the team was forced to forfeit the match, meaning OG won 2-0.

Mosquito Clan commented on the situation on X, saying: “By the time of the match against OG, it was already around 5 AM in Peru, and Parker wasn’t prepared in advance to play Dota all night.

“Unfortunately, at the most crucial moment, he simply didn’t have the energy to finish the game – the human factor is always unpredictable. We would also like to apologize to the organizers of Fissure Special for this accidental technical loss, as well as to the fans who were looking forward to the match.”

OG also made a post on X about the event in jest, referring to it as “the Parker incident.”

Mosquito Clan then faced L1ga Team for a chance to progress to the playoffs, promising “not to fall asleep” this time around. L1ga Team came out on top, winning 2-1, meaning April 10th will be Mosquito Clan’s last game in this year’s FISSURE Special tournament according to the organisation.
