OpTic Texas drops Kenny ahead of CDL Major 2

OpTic Texas has announced it has released Kenny ‘Kenny’ Williams from its starting line-up ahead of the second Call of Duty League (CDL) Major of the year.

The change comes after the North American esports organisation achieved one of the worst win-to-loss records in Call of Duty esports history during Major 2 qualifying matches.

During the Major 2 qualifiers, OpTic Texas recorded 18 consecutive defeats before securing a victory against Los Angeles Guerrillas M8 in its final match before the CDL heads to its second LAN event of the season.

Despite the surprising run of results for the 2024 CDL champions, the move has generated a mixed response from fans of the Green Wall.

“Who’s going to be the IGL (in-game leader)?” questioned one fan. “Why so late? Why not just stick it out till after the Major?” added another.

OpTic Texas is yet to announce a replacement for Williams, who has represented the organisation since July 2023 from the Los Angeles Thieves.

The fourth player of the starting lineup is rumoured to be Cesar ‘Skyz’ Bueno, currently a substitute for Los Angeles Guerrillas M8. The 25-year-old rose to the top of Call of Duty esports by winning the CDL Championship in 2023 as part of the New York Subliners.

Kenny’s departure from OpTic Texas marks the second change the team has made since Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became the CDL’s competitive title.

In February, the team announced the return of Amer ‘Pred’ Zulbeari, replacing Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland who represented the organisation during the first Major in Madrid, Spain.

Hosted by OpTic Texas, the second CDL Major of 2025 takes place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas from March 20th to 23rd, 2025.

The team begins the tournament in the elimination bracket where one defeat will eliminate them from the tournament.
