Prison Architect 2 delayed until May

Prison Architect 2’s parole date has been pushed back from 26th March until 7th May, with developer Double Eleven needing a little more time to polish up the game.

The team writes:

While we are already confident in the quality of the game, we would like to use some extra time to identify more bugs and further optimize the game for all platforms. Although sticking to the original launch date was an option, we feel that taking this additional time is necessary to ensure that we offer a smoother experience to our players from day one.

We also want to show how the development of the game is going in these final stages, which is why we’ll be starting streams up in March to go alongside our ongoing Prison Architect Academy YouTube series.

It’s a little bit of a surprise, since the game was only just announced in January, but a delay of around six weeks isn’t so bad for the final stages of polish.

A fully 3D sequel to one of the early hits of the crowdfunding boom in the 2010s, Prison Architect 2 promises deeper simulation, more player control and more creative options, when it launches across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Check out the announcement trailer.

Prison Architect 2 will step into the third dimension with everything that this entails. You can now build a prison across multiple floors with more elaborate structures, and with building tools designed to accommodate this feat. Within that space, you’ve then got myriad management tools to define daily schedules for inmates, policies for how to handle them, and more.

Prisoners now have more smarts, with the ability to form actual relationships with other people, and make decisions based on their wants and needs. This can lead to escape attempts, gang wars and more. You’ll have to try and accommodate this to ensure the smooth running of your penitentiary, whether that’s strict rules or a more lenient approach that puts inmate rehabilitation first.

The original Prison Architect was a massive success for original developer Introversion Software, with its fun take on the management sim genre and distinctive stylised 2D graphics. The franchise was acquired by Paradox Interactive in 2019 and entrusted to Double Eleven, who supported the game with several content packs, through to a final update in May last year.
