Team Liquid has announced that its Counter-Strike 2 coach, Torbjørn ‘mithR‘ Nyborg, has parted ways with the organisation.

Analyst Jay ‘Demars DeRover’ Li will be covering as interim head coach while the organisation finds a suitable replacement.

The announcement, made on X, sees the coach leave Team Liquid after less than a year with the organisation.

“Thank you mithR for your time at Team Liquid,” the post said. “We appreciate your passion and support for the squad. Best of luck in your future.”

The coach also made a post on X in response to the news online, disappointed with the outcome but hopeful for the future.

“2025 did not go as we wanted it to,” he said. “I am incredibly disappointed and sad that it turned out this way, but I will reflect and learn from this, as I always have, and improve for my next team.

“At the end of the day I believe this is the best decision for both parties. And even though I would have preferred to stay on board and fight through the tough times together, I fully understand their decision and were I in their shoes, I would probably have done the same.”

MithR’s Tenure in Esports and Team Liquid

MithR has a near-decade-long coaching career overseeing multiple rosters throughout Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Counter-Strike 2. He has previously worked for organisations such as Apeks, Mousesports, and North, dating all the way back to 2016.

The coach first joined Team Liquid midway through 2024 and took part in his first tournament with the organisation in August 2024. His debut with Team Liquid saw the coach place among the top four teams at the BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2024. Ultimately, Team Liquid placed sixth at BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2024.

Team Liquid has achieved some solid performances under mithR’s guidance. However, the organisation has struggled so far in 2025, including a Group Stage exit during IEM Katowice 2025.
