Multinational esports organisation Team Liquid has announced a partnership with action card collection title Wildcard.

As part of the collaboration, players from the organisation have worked with the developer to optimise its balancing and mechanics.

Former Team Liquid League of Legends players Samson ‘Lourlo’ Jackson and Bo Yuan ‘bobqin’ Qin have worked ‘side-by-side’ with Wildcard developers according to the announcement. This includes bi-weekly sessions ‘with the aim of delivering ‘an exceptional player experience.’

The two content creators will showcase Wildcard on their own streaming channels in addition to attending in-person events.

“We’ve been excited about Wildcard from the start. It was a fun game to play in its first iteration and it’s only gotten better,” commented Bo Kryne, VP of Product at Team Liquid.

“The team is amazing to work with, and you see their passion come back in the game they’ve made. We’re very pleased to be partnered with them as they release Wildcard to the public.

Described as a PvP (player-versus-player) 2v2, collectable card-based multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title, Wildcard involves players building decks of cards armed with a range of abilities. To win, players need to destroy the opponent’s goal.

Wildcard is planned to be released in 2025 but The Wildcard Alliance has yet to share an exact date.

With the involvement of Team Liquid, Wildcard has the potential to attract attention from the esports industry.

“Only the players and community can designate a new game worthy of the esports label,” said Katy Drake Bettner, co-CEO of The Wildcard Alliance.

“The excitement and support we immediately received from Lourlo, bobqin, and the broader Team Liquid ecosystem has reinforced our course vision, to create a competitive, genre-defining game that is as much fun to watch as it is to play.”

2025 has been a year of significant expansion for Team Liquid. In February, the organisation expanded into chess with the signing of chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

In addition to new titles, the organisation has also reappeared in games where it previously competed. In January, it returned to Overwatch esports after a seven-year absence.
