TEKKEN 8 returns as the latest title announced to appear at the upcoming Esports World Cup 2025 tournament.

The announcement was made on X on March 20th, 2025 by the official Esports World Cup account, much to the excitement of both fans and esports athletes.

The caption for the X post reads: “Fight for glory this summer as TEKKEN 8 returns for Esports World Cup 2025.”

Bawaqar ‘Soul Dragger’ Haider, former TEKKEN 8 world champion and commentator, said: “I am extremely happy Tekken returns for Esports World Cup 2025.

“I visited Esports World Cup 2024 as a spectator, but now I’d wish to come as a commentator.”

The popular fighting game was also featured in last year’s tournament. Only this year will be much bigger, as 40 partnered clubs will participate in the Club Partner Program and pros will be competing from around the world.

Some have already responded to the announcement with enthusiasm. Teams such as Twisted Minds, Ninjas In Pyjamas and DRX Esports announced their participation and preparations for the event.

TEKKEN 8 Returns From Esports World Cup 2024

It’s important to note the TEKKEN 8 Esports World Cup 2024 featured 32 of the world’s best players competing individually, rather than as teams. While players will represent various organisations, the tournament will not have team-based competitions.

Lats year was won by South Korea’s Lim ‘Ulsan‘ Soo-hoon of DN Freecs, who confirmed in a response online that he will ‘go again this year’ and is ‘aiming for the trophy again.’

Ulsan claimed the win while playing the character Dragunov, earing a $300,000 cash prize. He was also awarded MVP in Tekken 8, securing an additional $50,000.

The Esports World Cup 2025 tournament is expected to host 25 different games old and new, featuring popular esport titles such as Apex Legends, Overwatch 2 and more.

With TEKKEN 8’s announcement, only one more game awaits announcement but is shaping up to be quite the stacked line-up in what could be the biggest esports event so far.
