The University of Suffolk, based in Ipswich, England, has shared the first CGI look at its upcoming $2.17m (£1.65m) state-of-the-art esports facility. It will be housed in a vacant building on Long Street at the university’s Ipswich campus, with renovations being carried out by Concertus.

The facility will offer students access to over 40 high-spec gaming PCs, a professional-grade broadcast gallery and a live studio purpose-built for streaming and content creation. It will also serve as a learning hub for students enrolled in courses like the newly launched BA (Hons) Esports.

Univervisty of Suffolk Expands Esports Program

Open to students worldwide, the BA (Hons) Esports course is set to begin in September 2025. Unlike some of the traditional esports programs, it aims to provide a hands-on learning experience, covering both the competitive and business aspects of the industry.

Apart from this, students will also develop essential technology skills to help them thrive in the esports industry right from the beginning.

“We’ve already had lots of interest in our brand new esports course launching this September, and the £1.65 million facility will be a real draw for students to join our programme,” said Charlie Smith, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Esports.

“With more than 40 gaming PCs, live-streaming facilities and a broadcast gallery, our learners will benefit from industry-standard technology to bolster their experience before they even graduate into the industry.”

Moreover, the facility will provide opportunities for students to compete in national and global tournaments, online matches, and charity events, helping them showcase their talent to the world. The students will also be managing their own teams, set to be revealed later this year.
